Resistance: A French Womans Journal of the War

She joined the French Resistance in WW2, and within 6 months was in prison. She remembers it all in great detail.

I think this is my favorite “found” book. There are parts that are hard to read – I’ll admit to skimming a couple paragraphs about torture and atrocities. I admired her for so many reasons, one being how in the middle of slave labour she found a way to sabotage the rayon she was spinning for the war “effort.” When the war is declared over, she more or less takes over the running of the prison until it’s safe for everyone to leave. Then she went back to Paris. I wish she would have written more about re-adjusting to life in Paris, or even a followup book but no such luck.
